Athens, the capital of Greece took its name from the goddess Athena, the goddess of wisdom and knowledge. This is where democracy was born and where the marvel of architecture, the Parthenon, was created. This is where art became inseparable from life and where Pericles gave the funerary speech, that monument of the spoken word.

Greece is the symbol of freedom, art and democracy in the conscience of the civilized world. In Greece memory never fades. Wherever you stand, wherever you turn, the country’s long and rich history will be alive in front of you.

Corfu Island has a long history, which is well worth seeing and understanding.  It has a rich culture, developed in a course of centuries by many powerful European Kingdoms. Corfu was a centre of all social and cultural events and is a place where the first Greek parliament was established, the first university, printing press, music school, girl’s school and fine arts school originated.  More recently the Durrell family spent their holidays on the island and the book “My Family and Other Animals” brought Corfu international acclaim.  It’s an island that combines natural beauty with fabulous beaches and amazing sunsets.

Corfu was occupied by different nations, all of which respected local inhabitants.  Corfiots never lost their freedom and the history and unique culture of Corfu has remained, even after long succession of foreign rulers.  Corfu has kept its fundamental Greek character of the island and its inhabitants.
